We found some of our favorite kitchens that share a common thread; they have white walls and/or cabinetry in stark contrast with dark stained hardwood floors. This combination is a particularly striking style that can be applied to a range of designs.
One of the first things anyone notices about a kitchen is the brightness, well lit, open, usable space. Better visibility is paramount in a kitchen, the most utilitarian room in any home. Many designers and homeowners choose white walls to help brighten this space, although we find that white cabinetry has even more of an impact on the overall feel in a given room. With the eye-level spaces brightened, an opportunity is left open for the flooring to add some sharp contrast and visual complexity.
Rich hardwood floors can be found in a stunning variety of dark stains, with virtually any shade available for the choosing. We love the elegant look and functionality that these floors bring to kitchens.
